The Philippines currently has over 180 proposed and ongoing reclamation projects in coastal areas. It cannot be stressed enough how dire these projects have impacted the Philippine environment; crises are piling up in front of us, and our coastal communities are at the frontlines of this issue. These communities are threatened by dredging, dump-and-fill projects, and other activities related to reclamation. It has barred the progress of their livelihoods which then only benefits the capitalist corporations pushing these projects—continually harming our people and our ecosystem.
The youth stands in countering these reclamation activities and push for pro-people adaptation!
We urge DENR and BFAR to be inclusive of all sectors for us to undergo genuine mitigation and eliminate any oppressive systems being inflicted upon the people and environment.
