The climate crisis is here. Millions of Filipinos are affected by worsening climate impacts every single year; just last year, record-breaking heat indexes reached the different nations, leaving them to deal with the negative impacts of the extreme heat. The Philippines was hit with six (6) major typhoons in the span of a month, each one leaving communities more devastated than before. These extreme weather events are driven by the carbon emissions of industrialized countries, through their intense militarization and continuous support of fossil fuels, which will only continue to directly impact the Philippines and its people. The Filipino people are made vulnerable with the criminal negligence of our own leaders, leaving the situation for many dire.
We, the Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines, present our Youth Climate Agenda 2025 as a challenge to running candidates in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. With so much being affected, it is high time that a system change locally and globally should take place. The upcoming 2025 midyear election presents an opportunity for the people and the youth to demand and elect pro-people and pro-planet leadership on a national level to amplify the country’s needs in facing our biggest challenge yet – the climate crisis.
