Hands off our Mountains! Save Dupax Del Norte!

Last August 2025, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources granted Woggle the permit to conduct drillings and mining exploration for copper and gold deposits. While no extraction of minerals has been done, the environment and the communities nearby have already been negatively impacted—with the rivers getting polluted from the drilling. If the mining operations are to begin, residents worry that it would cause irreversible damage to the environment, which would also impact their livelihood which primarily relies on land and other natural resources. As such, the people of Dupax Del Norte have set up a people’ barricade to defend their land from the entry and land-grabbing of destructive mining corporations. Woggle corporation, with support of a local court, has since attempted to break the barricade, leading to the violent arrest of seven land and environment defenders from the community.

As Nueva Vizcayanons continue to face such threats to their environment and lives, planet-loving youth must stand stronger in solidarity with communities affected by destructive projects now more than ever. In support of the people’s barricade against destructive mining, YACAP launches an awareness caravan to shed more light on the experiences affected by the mining explorations in Dupax Del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya and mobilize the youth to put pressure on local and national leaders into upholding the people’s rights and the protection of our environment.
