URGENT CALL FOR DONATIONS FOR TYPHOON-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES

Several areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila, have experienced severe flooding due to Typhoon Carina (Gaemi) combined with the intensified southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat. Metro Manila is now UNDER A STATE OF CALAMITY.

Water levels in La Mesa Dam have surged, nearing the spill level due to heavy rains from Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon. According to PAGASA’s latest data, the dam’s water level reached 80.02 meters at 4:00 p.m., with the spill level at 80.15 meters.

As of July 24, 5:00 PM, reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) indicate that over 60 areas have been flooded. Region 3 (Central Luzon) is the most affected with over 30 flooded areas, followed by BARMM with 16, Region 9 with 9, MIMAROPA with 3, and Region 10 with 1. The severe weather has impacted over 100,000 families or more than 800,000 individuals. Additionally, over 30,000 people are taking refuge in more than 50 evacuation centers. The NDRRMC also reported 8 fatalities, 2 injuries, and 1 missing person.
