The climate crisis is here. Millions of Filipinos are affected by worsening climate impacts every single year; just last December 2021, the country was once again devastated by a monstrous typhoon that flattened entire villages and destroyed livelihoods and lives overnight. Unrelenting global warming and climate change, largely driven by the carbon emissions of industrialized countries, continues to have a direct impact on the Filipino people. Should nothing change locally and globally, our situation will only get worse.
The upcoming 2022 National Elections in May presents a crucial opportunity for the Filipino people to elect a green new leadership that is ready to take on the national and international challenge that is the climate crisis, all the while ensuring that people and planet are centered in the process. In this spirit of urgency, we, Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines, present our Youth Climate Agenda 2022 as a challenge to our candidates this election season.
